Since I've been one of CI's biggest proponents, I will answer Adriana's call for more posts.
My final exam of the semester is coming up on Friday. I have very little motivation to study for it, considering that my grades really don't matter (not even for med school), and considering that I only need to get a 10% on the exam in order to pass the class. Still, it's annoying to have the test hanging over my head and to have to go and actually answer some questions.
Saturday morning, they are kicking me out of my housing in the residential college. I will be spending 9 days living at a hostel in Brisbane, hanging out by myself and seeing all of the sites that I never saw while studying in this city. It might be a little lonely, but I think being in Oz with no more work will definitely be a refreshing experience.
4 July - 14 July, I'll be up on Heron Island, a small sand island just off the coast of Gladstone. Some other people have already taken classes up there, and I've heard nothing but good things about it. Apparently the entire island is no bigger than a football field, and you can walk completely around it in 15 minutes. I'm really looking forward to snorkeling on the Reef as part of Marine Neurobiology. And I think you'll all agree that I definitely earned this class.
Anyway, I come back to Brisbane for a while after the class is over, and then on 17 July, I go up to Cairns. I'm going on a tour of the Daintree Rainforest by myself on 18 July. Then my parents meet me in Cairns on the 19th. We do some diving on the Reef and then see another rainforest. Afterward, it's down to Sydney, Melbourne, and New Zealand. On 4 August, we come back to Brisbane, where I'll show my parents around the city and give them a tour of UQ. On 5 August, brace yourself: I'm coming back to the States.
The fact that my trip overseas is almost over is really starting to hit me. Alyssa and Danielle (whom you will all have to meet next year) left today for New Zealand, and then they go back home. All of the other Americans are leaving within the next couple of days. All of the Australians have been filtering out (going home) as they finish exams. I'm sad that my time here is almost up. I feel like I've been gone for quite some time, and I definitely miss a lot of people, but this is such a great experience, and I'm certainly not ready to leave yet. Really, I'm starting to feel more settled than ever. But I think all of this traveling over the next several weeks will be a wonderful way to go out. I'm really looking forward to all the great things that I will get to see!
In any case, in about 4 days, I become essentially ex-communicado for the next 5 weeks. I'll have limited email access, and no Skype and probably no AIM access. So, I guess this is my call for anyone who wants to say 'Hey Noah, what's up?' or 'Hey everyone, I've been doing XYZ lately' to do it now or hold your peace. I hope that at least some of you will take me up on that.
Continue to enjoy your summers all over the world. I'll be in touch.
