Just a couple of points regarding posts being separated by months.
(1) Dan and I discussed the pitfalls of monthly organization when we were setting up this site. We knew in advance that if a discussion was going on during the turn of the month, replying would be made impossible. However, (2) The enhanced organization of monthly posting far outweighs the slight inconvenience of not being able to reply to posts made from the previous month, especially since (3) You can re-start any old discussion in the new month (and even use the same subject, if you want) without too much hassle, really. Anyone who disagrees is plain lazy. (4) Furthermore, maybe the fact that discussions close after a month will motivate people to keep posting new threads. If it's the middle of March and we only have 5 discussions posted for the month, maybe that's a sign we should be talking more often. You can only milk old conversations for so long. And who doesn't like new topics of banter?
Food for thought.
